Midterm Project

Due Week 7 (Oct 21), in place of that week’s weekly network.

Build. An audio reactive TouchDesigner piece. Use image processing, geometric shapes, noise, or video input as the main visual approach, driven by the audio reactivity technique from Week 5.

Source material. The network shared with this assignment, 20261014_w6-2D-Compile-1.zip, includes examples from this semester, networks from previous semesters, and others.

Rendering. Week 6’s class includes a walkthrough of how to render a file out of TouchDesigner. Students need this for the second submission item below.

Submission. Four parts, all through Canvas.

  1. Upload the TouchDesigner network and its assets, the same process used every week.
  2. Render the piece and upload it to a host that gives a public link: Vimeo, YouTube, or similar.
  3. Fill out the CalArts Creative Computing student form at creativecomputing.calarts.edu/studentform to publish the work on the program website. Take a screenshot of the confirmation and upload it to Canvas.
  4. Submit the rendered piece’s public link in Canvas.

Presentation. You will present your rendered piece in class on October 21, as part of a shared Midterm presentation across the three Fall 2026 Creative Computing courses (Coding Art Fundamentals, Intro to TouchDesigner, and Coding Music Fundamentals). This is an open door event, so other students are welcome to come watch.

Previous student work is linked in Canvas alongside the assignment for reference.
